Carl 'Winfred' Smith A private memorial service will be held at Lometa Cemetery for Carl "Winfred" Smith.

He died May 25, 2008, in a Fort Worth hospital from complications following surgery. He was 83.

Mr. Smith was born May 9, 1925, near Lometa, where he grew up and attended school. He was the son of Carl Stevens and Emma Lou Sims Smith.

Mr. Smith entered the military service on Sept. 14, 1943, and served in the Army Air Force in California and North Carolina until his discharge on March 12, 1946.

He then went to work for General Dynamics Corp. in Fort Worth (now Lockheed Martin), where he worked until his retirement in 1987.

Mr. Smith was a skilled technician and master mechanic. After retirement, he maintained homes in Fort Worth, Tow and Lampasas.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Survivors include his sister, Frances and her husband, James Smith and their three sons, and a host of cousins.
