Three LMS games end in draws

By CLAY WHITTINGTON Staff Writer

The Badgers' eighth-grade "A" team (1-1-1) played to a 26-26 draw against the Lake Travis Cavaliers Tuesday night with Ray Gallbreith scoring three touchdowns for Lampasas, including a pair of rushing scores and a 50- yard punt return.

Kleg Kennedy posted the other touchdown, breaking free on a 25- yard speed option-keeper play.

With 30 seconds remaining in the contest, Lake Travis had an opportunity to win following a touchdown, but J.C. Vann blocked the extra point to keep the score deadlocked.

The seventh-grade "A" team opened its game by taking the kickoff and penetrating deep into Lake Travis' territory before coughing up the ball at the 33-yard line.

The Badgers, however, turned a negative into a positive by standing strong on defense and forcing the Cavaliers to punt the ball away.

Lampasas' second possession was much more productive, as Felipe Valles recorded his ninth touchdown of the season on a 47-yard run, but the Badgers could not convert the extra point.

Lake Travis bounced back in the second half, scoring on two possessions, but Erick Montiel's interception on the Cavaliers' extra-point attempt resulted in a 99-yard return to make the score 13-7.

Later in the game, Valles crossed the goal line once more, tying the game at 13-13. Lake Travis blocked the extra point and, thanks to a defensive stand by the Badgers, the game ended in a draw.

Lampasas' seventh-grade "B" team posted six points on a 74-yard run by Hunter Wilkinson and denied Lake Travis a potential gamewinning opportunity late in the contest to preserve a 6-6 tie.

The Badgers' seventh-grade "C" team found itself on the losing side, falling 7-0 to the Cavaliers, in its first regulation game of the season.

Offensively, the squad was able to move the ball up and down the field but could not tally any scores in the defeat.
