Hornets get stung by Cherokee in 2-point loss
      Nothing hurts worse than a self-inflicted wound. Just ask Lometa Hornets varsity football coach Wendell Bradley. The Hornets lost three of four fumbles, committed seven penalties -- including a pair of critical 15-yarders -- and had all six of their extra points blocked in a 38- 36 loss to Cherokee.

Runners fare well at May
      The Lometa cross country teams had another successful outing during a meet in May last week. Led by Lucas Kemp, Hector Ortiz, Dylan Straley and Edgar Castruita — who finished 11th through 14th respectively — the varsity boys' team took fourth place, while the varsity girls' squad finished fifth.

      Diplomas were awarded to 1,764 Texas A&M University graduates during summer commencement ceremonies. Among those who earned a degree was Amy Lynn Saenz of Lometa, bachelor of arts in sociology.
