Archeology program slated

A program and workshop on the archeology of Central Texas will be presented Oct. 2 at 7 p.m. at Mills County State Bank meeting room on the Courthouse Square in Goldthwaite.

Tiffany Osburn, regional archeologist of the Texas Historical Commission, will present the program at the free meeting.

Osburn is the THC regional archeologist for the Plains and Mountain/Pecos regions.

She earned a bachelor's degree from the University of North Texas and a master's degree from the University of Denver, both in anthropology.

Ms. Osburn has directed archeological projects throughout Texas and the southern U.S., specializing in geophysical techniques for archeological applications.

Osburn has published more than 25 archeological reports and papers and is a member of the Register of Professional Archaeologists, the Texas Archeology Association, the Council of Texas Archaeologists and the Society for American Archeology.

She will speak about the geophysical projects conducted by the Texas Historical Commission using ground-penetrating radar and magnetometer for subsurface mapping and detection of prehistoric archeological features.

A question-and-answer session will follow. Those who have arrowheads or other artifacts may bring them to the meeting for more information.
