Mr. Rhodes
Lester Ray Rhodes, 78, of Lampasas died Sept. 18, 2008, at his residence.
A memorial service will be held at Wingate Cemetery in Wingate at a later date. The body was cremated.
Mr. Rhodes was born Dec. 23, 1929, in Wingate, the son of Clyde C. and Iris Rogers Rhodes.
He married Mary Ann Contreras on Oct. 18, 1947, in Vacaville, Calif.
Mr. Rhodes served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II. He went on to be the commander of the Clark County Sheriff's Aero Squadron in Las Vegas, Nev.
He was a member of the Aircraft Pilots of Metropolitan Oakland, Calif., the California Council of Aviation Associations, the Western States Sheriff's Air Squadrons and the National Rifle Association.
Mr. Rhodes was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of Lampasas.
Survivors include his wife of Lampasas; a son, Curt William Rhodes of Las Vegas; daughters, Iris Diana Fisch and husband, Alan, and Rebecca Ann Snyder and husband, James, all of Lampasas; a brother, C.W. Rhodes and wife, Myrtle, of San Angelo; three grandchildren, Jeffrey Scott Fisch, Julie Werner and Adam Werner; three great-grandchildren, Dylan Fisch, Tyler Fisch and Adrianna Polier; seven sisters-in-law; and a brother-in-law.
