FRESHMAN FOOTBALL

It took the Badgers' freshman Blue team a little while to get going last Thursday at home against Gatesville, but once it got hot, the squad could not be stopped.

After the first quarter, the Badgers found themselves looking up from a 13-point hole. However, they quickly dug their way out, scoring 32 unanswered points to seal a 32-13 victory in dramatic fashion.

Quarterback Brandon Scott displayed his versatility, rushing for touchdowns of one, five and 50 yards during the rally, while Justin Maldonado reached the end zone twice on 13- and 35-yard runs.

Zach Adams and Julian De La Cruz each intercepted a pass in the contest, while Layton Irvin and Steven McKinney assisted in leading Lampasas defensively.

Earlier in the day, the freshman White team fell just short of notching a victory of its own, falling 22-20 to the Hornets.

Dillon Wyles passed for three scores with Gabe Miles catching two touchdown tosses and Zell Wright receiving the other.

Lampasas is off until Oct. 2, when both teams return to Badger Stadium for district games against Hendrickson. The White team will kick off at 5:30 p.m. followed by the Blue team at 7 p.m.

Brandon Willie (35th) and David Bloomfield (41st) led the way with Jonathan Lohmann finishing 78th for the boys' team.

The girls' squad was paced by Tiffany Fagg and Vanessa Perkins who placed 28th and 31st respectively.

Overall, the Badgers and Lady Badgers improved their pace per mile from last year's meet.

Lampasas returns to action on Thursday morning in Gatesville.

MIDDLE SCHOOL

The eighth-grade Blue football team fell to Gatesville last Thursday by a score of 16-0 after committing three turnovers in the contest.

Lampasas' seventh-grade Blue and White teams were able to find success against the Hornets with the Blue team winning 38-22 and the White team posting a 12-0 shutout.

Felipe Valles scored the winning touchdown for the Blue squad with just under one minute remaining in the game.

In addition to the game-clincher, Valles was responsible for five other touchdown runs.

The White team improved its record to 1-1 with the victory.

Last week the White squad lost a heartbreaker to Burnet after driving within the Bulldogs' five-yard line, only to have the clock expire before they could score a gamewinning touchdown.
