Benny Boyd Jr., left, and members of the Lampasas High School Band announce the launch of the 2008 Hometown Scholarship Program, presented by the local Dodge dealership. The fund-raising campaign will generate money for high school students. During the fall, LHS band members will solicit $5 suggested donations during home football games, with proceeds supporting band students' spring trip expenses and/or educational materials and/or supplies for their participation in the band program. Those who donate may register to win a 2009 Dodge Ram Crew Cab 1500 truck and automatically receive a voucher for a complimentary T-shirt at Benny Boyd's. In its sixth year, the Hometown Scholarship Program has raised more than $3.8 million for various high school organizations throughout the country. In 2008, the program raised over $1.5 million nationally.
