Registration coming for Texas Outdoor Family Workshop
Texas Outdoor Family Workshop is a two-day weekend workshop Nov. 1-2 designed for families. It is an opportunity for any family to learn new outdoor skills -- skills not only associated with hunting and fishing, but also useful for many other outdoor pursuits.
This workshop is for families who have never tried outdoor activities but would like an opportunity to learn or for families who have never camped, fished or hiked or who are completely new to the outdoors.
Registration deadline is Oct. 24, and space is limited.
Courses include camping 101, for adults; wildlife detectives, for children; archery; fishing basics; kayaking basics and more.
The workshop is being held at Calaveras Lake Park, operated by the San Antonio River Authority, just 20 miles southeast of downtown San Antonio.
It is recommended for families with children between ages 5 and 12. One adult must be over 18 for every two children in attendance.
Cost is $115 per family (up to four people). Add $25 more for additional family members. Participants should feel free to bring fishing and camping gear and other equipment.
Firearms will not be allowed in the park.
Particpants should bring tennis shoes or hiking boots, long pants, rain gear, insect repellent, sunscreen, bottled water, camp chairs, hat, alarm clock, camera and a flashlight, as well as bedding.
