Pierians cover new business
The GFWC/TFWC Pierian Club met for its first meeting of the year on Sept. 9 at the home of president Susan Browder, with co-hostesses Johnnie Ewing and Lucy Walker. Nineteen members were present.
Mrs. Browder welcomed members back for a new club year, and read an invitation to the City Federation of Women's Clubs Scholarship and Community Fashion Show and Brunch in Temple on Oct. 9.
Crystal Hammett, Capitol District first vice president, reported the Capitol District Fall Board Meeting will be in Georgetown on Oct. 15. She also led members in singing the federation song and repeating the federation motto.
The treasurer presented a proposed budget which was approved after a change in words for Library Foundation donations.
Ruthie Martin, library advisory board member, called for members to volunteer to work at the Lampasas Public Library on Saturdays to assist library staff. A signup sheet was passed around. The library is an ongoing project of the club, as Pierians were instrumental in its establishment.
Mrs. Martin also reported on the club's scholarship recipient, Savannah Burks.
Myrna Bozarth reported on the Juniorettes who had their first meeting Monday under the leadership of president Meredith Lane.
Mrs. Browder had the correspondence secretary read a letter from Hanna Springs counselor Greg Smith concerning the Elementary Benevolence Fund. She requested the club use "Benevolence Fund" in place of "school supplies" as listed in the section of the yearbook listing the club's projects. The change was approved.
Mrs. Martin, president-elect, reviewed the yearbook and the programs for the year.
Next meeting is Oct. 4 at the home of Crystal Hammett with Cherie Leavell and Nina Lee Rasmussen as co-hostesses.
Member Cindy Abel will give the program on growth and services of Lampasas Mission. Members will observe World Food Day on Oct. 16 and demonstrate their support of the mission by contributing items for the organization.
