Members of the GFWC/TFWC 36 Club had brunch at the home of Linda Hutcherson for the group's first meeting of the club year on Sept. 11.

Hostesses were member of the social committee, Bea Hohman, Kay Boone, Susan Detrick, Ann Johnson, Ellen McFarland and Mrs. Hutcherson, with 19 members present.

Mrs. Boone opened with a prayer.

Following the meal, Amy McDaniel, president, conducted the business meeting. Crystal Hammett, federation counselor and Capitol District first vice president, announced the TFWC Board of Directors Meeting is set Thursday through Saturday at Town Lake Holiday Inn in Austin, and the Capitol District Fall Board Meeting is Oct. 15 in Georgetown.

Corresponding secretary Dorothy Duncan read several communications to the club. After the presentation of a proposed budget for the year, Mrs. McDaniel discussed possible fundraising projects for the year, including a taco salad lunch and collecting aluminum cans monthly for the senior center.

Collecting cans was approved, and the committee will look at the lunch.

The club voted to increase membership from 25 to 30.

Beverly Wood volunteered to work with the Pierian Club representative on the 2009 Capitol District Spring Convention to be hosted by both clubs and held in Lampasas on March 18.

Mrs. McDaniel introduced a cut-out figure of Jenny June, the original founder of the General Federation of Women's Clubs, as part of a special project where the cut-out travels all over the U.S. and world with club members, giving members opportunities to spread the word about the federation and the benefits of belonging to the club. The president already has carried Jenny June to a number of places.

Next meeting will be at the Hancock Springs Hostess House on Oct. 9. Hostesses will be Gail Callahan, Carol Davis and June Davis.

Physical therapist Jeananne Elkins will give a program on health matters.
