Lam and Ham Jones to kick off CASA 5K
FILE PHOTO Lampasas native and Longhorn legend Johnny "Lam" Jones, seen in front of a tribute to his days as a Badger track star inside Bozarth-Fowler gymnasium, will be cutting the ribon prior to the CASA "Speak Up For Kids" 5K race on Saturday. More than 30 years ago, Johnny "Lam" Jones and Johnny "Ham" Jones stood united in an attempt to bring home a national championship to the legions that sported burnt orange and white inside Texas Memorial Stadium.
Even Longhorns fans have to admit their cause now is much more important.
The pair of Texas football greats will team up once again this Saturday when they serve as official ribbon cutters for the Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) "Speak Up For Kids" 5K to benefit abused and neglected children in Blanco, Burnet, Lampasas, Llano and San Saba counties.
The festivities begin at 8 a.m. at Johnson Park in Marble Falls with a kids' 1K race, immediately followed by the 5K race at approximately 8:15 a.m.
Olympic gold medalist and Lampasas native Lam Jones will cut the ribbon prior to the 5K, while former University of Texas team captain Ham Jones does the honors before the kids' race.
After the races are complete, participants are encouraged to stay for Fun Day at the Park, highlighted by a live musical performance by Daniel Conti with Drawing Back from noon to 3 p.m. at the outdoor pavilion.
A silent auction will be offered from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Just blocks from the park, Main Street will be teeming with vendors from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. selling food, arts and crafts at the city's Fall Market Day.
Late registration is available today from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the CASA office, 1719 Ridgeview in Kingsland, and again at Johnson Park prior to the race Saturday morning from 7-7:45 a.m.

The Lampasas Badgers' cross country teams will also be running at the race due to the cancelation of their meet in Liberty Hill.
While the event will not be a UIL-sanctioned event, it will count as a competitive meet for Lampasas.
