After receiving a long break in the schedule, the Lampasas tennis teams got back to work over the weekend.

On Thursday, Lampasas played its first match since Aug. 26 by welcoming Gatesville to town. The boys' team won six of its nine matches on the day, while the girls took seven of their nine matches.

Overall, coach Kenneth Peiser was pleased with his teams' efforts on the day, but saw areas that could be improved.

"We were not as aggressive as we needed to be and did not attack the net on every point," Peiser said. "But we were able to gain the points when needed."

After taking Friday off, Lampasas hit the road on Saturday, heading to Pflugerville for morning matches against Pflugerville High and afternoon contests against Connally.

Against Pflugerville, the boys won just two of their nine matches with freshman Zach Holcomb coming from behind to win in a tie breaker while Mason Thornton and Caleb Wales combined to win in doubles.

The girls were far more successful, winning eight of their nine matches to give the team an 11-8 victory.

That afternoon, at Connally, Peiser saw improvements on his boys' squad when Zach McKenzie and Nick Baker came out strong before eventually falling after losing their concentration and emotion during the match.

"They did learn to become more aggressive, which is a big jump in their mental game," Peiser said.

Abby Peterson and Lillie Davis won their doubles match with a strong finish. Peterson and Jessica Baker both ended the day with 3-1 records, but Lampasas fell to Connally as a team 14-5.

The Badgers tennis teams return to the courts today for matches against Dripping Springs.
