Badgers run over at home
Rockdale Tigers spoil Lampasas' home opener by rushing for 213 yards and three touchdowns
      It only took a five-minute span in the second quarter for the game to get away from the Badgers on Friday night.

      CROSS COUNTRY Brandon Willie battled the course and the early-morning heat last Friday in Waco, but still hit his stride, taking 10th place at the Midway Invitational. The 5K event began around 9:30 a.m. -- three hours later than the team typically practices -- but Willie crossed the finish line in 17:10.

Tennis gets back into swing of things
      After receiving a long break in the schedule, the Lampasas tennis teams got back to work over the weekend. On Thursday, Lampasas played its first match since Aug. 26 by welcoming Gatesville to town. The boys' team won six of its nine matches on the day, while the girls took seven of their nine matches.

Lady Badgers fall to Rogers
      Lampasas volleyball coach Tracey Myers figured it was better to be safe than sorry when scheduling last Friday's game against Rogers. Instead of starting her team's match against the Eagles at the usual time of 6 p.m., Myers moved it ahead an hour and a half.

      Dove season opened last week, it was too hot to hunt, but I decided to go down to our farm pond to see if I could bag a few birds. I gathered all my stuff -- my 410-pump shotgun and shells, game bag, a chair and water bottle.
