Class reunion
     The Lampasas High School Class of 1946 met at St. Mary's Episcopal Church Parish Hall for its 62nd class reunion. Class members present included Charles Lancaster, left, Sherwood Yancy, second from left, and Kenneth Willy, right, with guest Wilma Dycus. Others on hand included Nita V. Smith, Dorothy Simon Shroyer, Fay Smart Crooks, Bobbye Alexander Behlau, Fay Rathman Mullins, Edna Baker Bleimeyer, Ted Roberts, Elbertine Lively Ware, Jack Nobles and Joann McGuire. Among the guests present were Daphne Harris Blanton from the Class of 1938; Martha Bales Bloss from the Class of 1947; and Ann Rathman Hughes from the Class of 1948. Other guests included Stuart Bloss, Joe Behlau, Cecilia Nobles, Sue Lancaster, Carolyn Yancy, Elizabeth Roberts, Kelli Beaty, Brooklyn Beaty, Ashley Beaty, Nancy Andress and Janet Brown.

Democratic celebration

91st birthday to be observed
      A party will honor Esther S. Weaver as she celebrates her 91st birthday. The event will be given in the home of her son and daughterin law, Gary and Jackie Weaver of Lampasas. Mrs. Weaver was born Sept. 9, 1917.

LHS cheer camp on tap
      The Lampasas High School cheerleaders will have their annual mini-camp for students in kindergarten through sixth grade on Sept. 13 from 8:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Cost is $25 per participant. A parent pep rally will be held at noon, and mini cheerleaders will perform at the Sept. 18 football game.

Heights teen's mother seeks help for ill son
      The mother of a Harker Heights teenager battling a rare brain disease is asking the public to become more aware of the disorder that she said will take her son's life. Rodney Snowden, 18, suffers from Dandy-Walker Syndrome, a malformation of the brain, said his mother, LeaAnn Snowden.

      A meeting of those interested in participating in Young Life will be held tonight at 7 p.m. at the Lampasas Fire Department Meeting Room. Those who wish to learn more about the group are invited.

What does 'Lampasas' really mean
      Lampasas as a city on the Texas map did not exist before 1856. That year, Lampasas County was created by the Texas Legislature, and the name was taken from the river that courses through the county. At the same time, the little settlement of Burleson changed its name to Lampasas and became the county seat.

      Democratic Women's Association of Lampasas will meet Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. at My Girls on Courtyard Square. Agenda items to be discussed include the Labor Day picnic success and funds raised, how to best support Democratic candidates, and plans for the Herb/Art Fest booth in October.

      Preservation Lampasas Inc. will hold its annual fish fry Sunday from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at The Holiday House, 908 E. Fourth St. Cost is $20 per plate per person. Tickets are available at Cattles Pharmacy, Hodges & Sargent Pharmacy, Old Town Antiques and the Lampasas County Chamber of Commerce office on U.S. Highway 281 South.

Alzheimer's group plans lunch event
      The Alzheimer's Association will present Lunch 'N Learn on Alzheimer's disease on Oct. 3 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Inman's Kitchen & Catering, 809 W. Young in Llano. The free educational class is for family caregivers and anyone interested in learning the basics of Alzheimer's disease. Topics include disease basics, stages and how to deal with the disease.
