State official sets reception Sunday
Gail Lowe The public is invited to a Meet- &-Greet the Candidate event Sunday from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Holiday Inn Express. Light refreshments will be served.
At the fund-raising reception, Gail Lowe will discuss her role on the State Board of Education and her re-election campaign.
Mrs. Lowe was elected to the State Board of Education in November 2002 and was re-elected in 2004.
She serves as chair of the board's Committee on School Initiatives and previously served as vice chair on the Committee on Plan- ning.
Mrs. Lowe has served as a trustee for the Lampasas Independent School District, as well as on district and campus site-based committees.
A longtime classroom volunteer, the SBOE member worked primarily with elementary schoolchildren who had reading difficulties.
Mrs. Lowe is a co-publisher and copy editor for the semi-weekly newspaper, the Lampasas Dispatch Record. She is a member of various regional and national newspaper organizations and serves as vice president for Hill Country Publishing Company Inc. She also is an honorary member of Delta Kappa Gamma.
Mrs. Lowe has been active as a charter member of the Lampasas County Republican Women and the Lampasas County Republican Club and as a business member of the Lampasas County Chamber of Commerce. She also is a member of Friends of the Lampasas Public Library and is involved with New Covenant Church.
In 2005, Mrs. Lowe was named Conservative of the Year by the Lampasas County Conservative Club.
She attended the University of Alabama and received a bachelor of science degree from Louisiana State University in 1978.
Mrs. Lowe and her husband, Jim, have three children. Two have graduated from Lampasas High School and one is a junior.
Representing District 14 on the State Board, Mrs. Lowe represents the counties of Archer, Bosque, Brown, Clay, Comanche, Cooke, Coryell, Denton, Eastland, Erath, Grayson, Hamilton, Hill, Hood, Jack, Lampasas, McLennan, Mills, Montague, Palo Pinto, Somervell, Stephens, Wichita, Wise and Young, as well as parts of Bell County.
