GOLF TOURNAMENT
The Metroplex Health System Foundation is holding its ninth annual Fall Golf Classic on Sept. 14 to benefit Rollins Brook Community Hospital. The tournament is set for 1 p.m. at Hancock Park Municipal Golf Course in Lampasas.
Format of the event is a three-person scramble with team prizes awarded to first, second and third place.
Door prizes will be offered, along with hole-in-one and contest hole prizes.
Dinner will be served at the golf course pavilion following completion of the tournament.
Deadline to register is Monday, and the field will be limited to 114 players.

YOUTH BASKETBALL
Lampasas PIPs registration will be held Saturday, from 9 a.m. to noon at Hanna Springs 3-4 Gymnasium. The cost is $70, which includes camp, practice uniform and PIP basketball.
All returning PIPs need to come to registration to determine which level they will be placed in.

HORSE HEALTH
The Lampasas Clay Breakers 4-H Shooting Sports Club will hold its first meeting of the new school year on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. in the Lampasas Farm Bureau Building. New officers will be installed, and new memberships will be taken at the meeting.
New-member safety orientation is set Sept. 16, followed by the first monthly shoot of the new year on Sept. 21 at 1 p.m. at Fort Hood Trap and Skeet Club.
The Clay Breakers offer clay target shooting games to 4-H members of all skill levels and ages 9 to 18. Monthly meetings and monthly fun shoots are held at Fort Hood Trap & Skeet.
Members do not need to have a shotgun or shooting experience, but the club requires that a responsible adult attend meetings and shoots with the member. Nominal fees are also charged for shooting.
The Lampasas Clay Breakers also offers competitive events and is a year-round 4-H Club.

TACO SALAD SUPPER
The Lampasas School Food Service Association's taco salad supper is Friday preceding the football game. Serving will be from 5-8 p.m. at the Lampasas Middle School cafeteria. Tickets are $5 each and are available from any LSFSA member or at the door. Menu includes taco salad, pinto beans, hot rolls, peach cobbler and tea. Take-outs will be offered.
HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL
The Built Ford Tough High School Football Player of the Week program is under way for 2008 and is requesting fans submit the names of players who deserve recognition for their efforts both on and off the field.
Fans are invited to vote for their favorite players each week during the season at PlayerOfTheWeek.com. Nominations must be submitted by noon on Tuesdays following weekend games.
Additionally, television crews will travel across the state spotlighting selected players of the week. The Built Ford Tough Player of the Week television series is presented by the Dallas Cowboys and will air three times each week during the high school football season on FOX Sports Southwest.
YOUTH BASEBALL
Coast to Coast Baseball is inviting local players ages 10-18 to its tryout event at the baseball fields at Temple College on Sept. 13 at 10 a.m. Players will be evaluated on four major skill sets: hitting, fielding, arm strength and speed.
Accepted players receive an opportunity to represent the USA at competitions in Puerto Rico or work with college coaches and professional scouts at a Florida Camp and Showcase event held at a MLB spring training complex.
Following the tryout, there will be a three-hour hitting camp beginning at 2 p.m. meant to assist players improve hitting fundamentals and their mental approach at the plate.
The cost of the tryout is $25 and the cost of the hitting camp is $50, but for $65 players can attend both events.
There will also be an identical event held at the University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio on October 11.
