Hornets show mercy on Covington
      Prior to last week's football game between Lometa and Covington, SixManFootball.com listed the Hornets as a 32-point favorite. It wasn't enough. Lometa covered the spread before the first quarter even ended and cruised to a 58-0 lead by halftime, giving the Hornets the victory thanks to the league's 45-point "mercy rule.

Lometa enrollment up at start of 2008-09
      Lometa Independent School District bucked the area-wide trend of lower enrollment numbers when it opened its doors on Aug. 25 for the first day of the 2008-09 term. The district's enrollment increased by seven students from the previous year, and was up from the 306 recorded the first day of classes for the 2006-07 year.

Vandals strike memorial garden
      A memorial garden at Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Lometa has been the target of vandals several times over the past five years, and Mary Anna Wittenburg Beard is fearful that children will get hurt if it continues. A water fountain and bench at the memorial garden both have suffered damage from what Mrs. Beard believes are the action of children who play in the area.
