Badgers' wait is finally over
After a long offseason of training, the Lampasas High School varsity team kicks off its season tonight
      The Badgers' 2007 season seemed to take an eternity. For 10 winless games last year, time virtually stood still for the coaches, players and fans of the Lampasas High School varsity football team. The offseason was equally drawn out, as the wheels of progression slowly turned within the program.

Volleyball has lots of room to improve
      Lady Badgers volleyball coach Tracey Myers has a lot of work ahead of her, both on and off the court. After giving Brownwood a run for its money in the first and second sets of Tuesday's match, Lampasas simply ran out of gas in the third, falling 25-13, 25-21 and 25-6 at Bozarth-Fowler Gymnasium.

      On the morning of Aug. 15, I was purchasing my Super Combo hunting license for the upcoming season. Pete, the manager assisting me, said, "You must have slept in," because I am usually one of the first to get my license, but it was 10 a.m. when I got to the counter.

Cross country coach has lofty expectations for his runners
      If memory serves, most high school students roll out of bed and into class just moments before the morning bell sounds. Obviously, they are not members of the Badgers cross country team. Six days a week, head coach Trent Lancaster's runners arrive to campus, ready to work out at 6:30 a.m.

      SOCCER The Lampasas Soccer Association has openings for players on its U19 girls' team and its coed U12 and U14 teams. The association also is trying to recruit players to form a U19 boys' team and a U16 team -- which will be either a girls' squad or a coed team.

Booster Club plans Dessert Night event
      The Lady Badger Volleyball Booster Club will host Dessert Night on the Court Thursday at 5:30 p.m. in the Bozarth-Fowler Gymnasium. Highlight of the evening will be an exhibition volleyball match between students, staff and various community members.
