Mobile home blaze tied to smoking in bedroom
Lampasas County Fire Marshal Gene Harrison said "careless smoking" in a bedroom, which ignited a mattress, was the cause of a Sunday night fire that destroyed two mobile homes.
Firemen were dispatched to 8235 U.S. Highway 190 East at 8:15 p.m. The location is about seven miles east of Lampasas, across the highway from Alfredo's Mexican Restaurant.
A motorist told authorities he heard several explosions, which Harrison said probably were due to propane bottles on the property.
A resident in one of the mobile homes -- the other one next to it was used for storage -- suffered burns to his arms, family members said.
The area resident was taken to Rollins Brook Community Hospital's emergency department, where he was treated and released, a hospital spokesperson said.
