Museum open Saturday, closed for Labor Day
      Keystone Square Museum will be closed Monday in observance of Labor Day. The museum will be open Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Regular hours resume Sept. 6 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and again Sept. 8 from 10 a.m. to noon. Contact the museum, at 303 S. Western, at 556- 2224. Special tours also may be arranged by telephone.

Mobile home blaze tied to smoking in bedroom
      Lampasas County Fire Marshal Gene Harrison said "careless smoking" in a bedroom, which ignited a mattress, was the cause of a Sunday night fire that destroyed two mobile homes. Firemen were dispatched to 8235 U.S. Highway 190 East at 8:15 p.m. The location is about seven miles east of Lampasas, across the highway from Alfredo's Mexican Restaurant.

AARP throws support behind two petitions filed with PUC
      AARP filed comments in support of two petitions filed at the Public Utility Commission to adopt on an emergency basis new rules prohibiting the disconnection of electricity service through Sept. 30. AARP's comments were in support of petitions filed recently by Sen. Juan Hinojosa and State Rep.

Jail sentence given in case
      In recent 27th District Court action with Judge Joe Carroll presiding, Elliot G. Pope, 52, was sentenced to 18 months in state jail for injury to a child. He was credited with time served. A 10-month jail sentence was given to Thomas Sokou, 36, for fraudulent use of identification. He received credit for time served.
