Preventing identity theft
Council shares tips to protect money, reputation
      In view of the breakup of a global identity theft ring and the arrest of its members, the National Crime Prevention Council is advising consumers to take extra precautions to protect their personal information. From data breaches to phishing scams, thieves are targeting consumers, and they need to be prepared.

LISD principal named president of state association
      Kelly Dunn, principal at Taylor Creek Elementary in Lampasas ISD, will serve a second term as District 12 president for the Texas Elementary Principals and Supervisors Association. Dunn and his fellow officers from the 20 TEPSA districts across the state were installed at the association's July Leadership Conference.

      Cardiovascular health will be the focus of the first summit on the Comprehensive Care of Women presented by the Women's Health Center for Comprehensive Care at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. The conference is set Oct. 18 at the Onstead Auditorium at The University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston.

      Chris and Stephanie Maceyra of Austin are the parents of a son, Christopher "Myles", born May 30, 2008, at 9:13 a.m. at North Austin Medical Center. At arrival, Myles weighed 9 pounds, 7 ounces and was 20 1/2 inches in length.

      Deciding to find one's birth family can be a life-changing decision. It's a personal journey that could alter one's perceptions of himself and his family.       Classics at the Classic will meet in the back parking lot of Storm's Drive-In Sept. 6 at 7 p.m. The event will be dedicated to Paul Murray, who with others helped Sharon Carrigan plan the first classics gathering at Storm's. Murray died before the first gathering was held.
