With national, state and countywide elections approaching Nov. 4, Elections Administrator Dorothy Person is coordinating a series of voter registration opportunities throughout the county.

Voters can register Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Lometa Senior Citizens Center or from 1:30-5 p.m. at Bruton Grocery Store in Lometa.

Another voter drive is planned Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Wal-Mart in Lampasas.

Citizens also will have an opportunity to register Sept. 4 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Lampasas Senior Citizens Center.

Final voter drives will be held Sept. 6 from 9 a.m. to noon at Kempner Food Mart and from 1:30-3:30 p.m. at Christiansen's Store and Restaurant.

"Of course, we're just hoping people will stop by and register as they're going in to the store," Ms. Person said. "We're trying to hit all areas of the county."

Each location will offer a mock election to allow registrants to test the electronic voting equipment to be used in the fall elections.

Citizens who recently have changed addresses within the county may record their change of address online at the Texas secretary of state's Web site, www.sos.state.tx.us/elections/ index.shtml.

Those who have moved from outside Lampasas County must fill out a registration card -- either at a voter drive site or at the elections administrator's office at 412 S. Live Oak Street in Lampasas -- or print an application from the secretary of state Web site.

Forms obtained online must be mailed to Lampasas County Elections Administrator/Voter Registrar, P. O. Box 571, Lampasas, TX 76550.

A federal postcard application for military personnel stationed overseas is available from military voting officers and on the secretary of state Web site.

Prospective voters must register by Oct. 6 to be eligible to vote. To be eligible to vote in Lampasas County, one must be a United States citizen and a Lampasas County resident, and must be 18 years old by election day.

Convicted felons are ineligible, unless they have completed punishment -- including incarceration, parole and probation.

Early voting, to take place in the elections administrator's office, begins Oct. 20 and continues Monday through Friday until Oct. 31. The early voting area will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Oct. 21 and Oct. 30, and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. all other days.

Election day polling locations are:

· Precinct 1, Clear Creek Baptist Church.

· Precinct 2, Lampasas High School library.

· Precinct 3, Lampasas County Courthouse.

· Precinct 4, First United Methodist Church in Lampasas.

· Precinct 5, Adamsville Community Center.

· Precinct 6, Nix Community Center.

· Precinct 7, Lometa City Hall.

· Precinct 8, Kempner Volunteer Fire Department Training Center.

· Precinct 9, Lometa United Methodist Church.

· Precinct 10, Kempner United Methodist Church.

Lampasas County has about 12,000 registered voters, Ms. Person said, and the elections administrator hopes the voter drives will increase that figure by about 10 percent.

"Lampasas County has done a good job registering to vote," Ms. Person said. "We just want to continue that and improve on that."
