YoungLife looking to form

2008-08-22 / Lifestyles

An informational meeting will be held Sept. 9 at 7 p.m. at a private home in Lampasas for those interested in YoungLife, whose mission is to introduce adolescents to Jesus Christ and help them grow in their faith.

As of May 2007, YoungLife was in more than 4,600 schools and other outreach locations around the world. It is a non-denominational church youth ministry that seeks to bring the word of Christ to students in high school and help them and their families connect with a local church.

YoungLife volunteers are sought to offer community support through donors, committee members, prayer warriors, teacher staff and more.

Becky Jackson, youth minister at First United Methodist Church in Lampasas, said the need for church youth ministries and YoungLife organizations in communities is important. "According to government statistics, there will be a higher ratio of methamphetamine use by young people in our town than in all of Austin. There also will be a higher number of teen pregnancies, underage drinking, underage drinking and driving and other illegal drug use by minors," she said.

"While YoungLife will not solve all of the problems, YoungLife will definitely make a powerful and positive impact on the lives of our young people and this community."

Becky and Chris Jackson will be the point leaders of YoungLife if community support is there.

The couple have been residents of Lampasas for four years.

Mrs. Jackson has a certification in youth ministry from Perkins School of Theology at SMU and has been in youth ministry for 14 years. She has directed and served as a dean at various conference camps and is a professional speaker at numerous conference events to youths and youth pastors.

For more information on YoungLife, phone Mrs. Jackson at 556-5277. Space is limited, but anyone interested is encouraged to attend.
