Young Lady Badgers prepare for busy slate of non-district matches
      Lady Badger volleyball coach Tracey Myers will rely on a mix of young players and returning starters this season, as Lampasas faces a new set of district opponents. Myers has lost a crucial starter at setter, as one junior has opted to pursue homeschooling.

State competitors
      Members of the Lamasas County 4-H group recently competed at the State 4-H Horse Show in Abilene. Riders competed individually in Halter, Western Pleasure, Western Horsemanship, Trail, Barrels, Poles and the Stake Race. The Lampasas group finished ninth in the Team Precision Riding Competition.

Ranch sorting
      Lampasas County Rodeo Association held its first ranch sorting July 19. A total of 65 teams competed. Ranch sorting is open to all ages, from beginners to experienced riders. The next competition is scheduled for Aug. 16, with books opening at 6 p.m.

National qualifiers
      The M-Pact All-Star Team, a select squad of Lampasas-area athletes, placed ninth at the fast-pitch Summer Nationals, held last week in Harlingen.

Father-son golf event scheduled in Waco
      A new tradition will begin this fall when the Greg May Father- Son Tournament tees off Sept. 13- 14 in Waco. Professional and amateur teams of father and son, father-in-law/ son-in-law, stepfather/stepson or grandfather/grandson are welcome to the 36-hole tournament.

Dove dates, limits set
      The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department has finalized early-season migratory game bird regulations, which include dove and teal seasons for 2008-2009. Texas hunters will see a 16-day September teal season and no changes to the South Dove Zone segments.
