60th anniversary celebration held
      Kenneth and Billye Green of Lometa celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with a cook-out for family and friends at Lake Buchanan on Aug 2. The couple were married Aug. 1, 1948, in Houston, and honeymooned in New Braunfels at the Faust Hotel, still in operation today.

School sets registration
      Lometa Independent School District will hold high school registration Tuesday through Aug. 15. The first day of school for the 2008-09 term is Aug. 25. * * * The school will be closed through Monday, and the gymnasium will be closed until Aug. 22 to allow work on the facility's floors.

New degree program approved at Tarleton
      The Texas A&M University System Board of Regents has given approval for Tarleton State University to establish a new Specialist in School Psychology degree program. The current program, Master of Science in Educational Psychology School Psychology option, will be offered under the new title and will align Tarleton's program with similar ones across the nation.
