Upcoming non-credit courses listed
The Central Texas College (CTC) Continuing Education Department is offering a variety of non-credit courses in August including several new classes. Registration is under way now for the following classes.
Crocheting for Beginners: In this new course, students will learn how to crochet using worsted yarn, learn to read patterns, then crochet using chain, single and double crochet stitches. Class will meet Tuesdays and Thursdays, Aug. 12- 21, 6:30- 8:30 p.m. Cost is $19.
Home Decorating Made Simple: Learn how to arrange a room that is attractive and functional in this new class. Students will learn about color schemes, fabric selection and home accessories. Class will meet Tuesday and again Aug. 19 from 6:30- 8:30 p.m. Cost is $19 plus $1 for course handouts.
Organic Gardening: Learn how to grow nutritious food without the cost of expensive fertilizers and harmful pesticides. Topics include soil preparation, chemical voice. organic pesticides, mulching, planting, layout and more. Class will meet Tuesdays and Thursdays, Aug. 12-21, 6:30- 8:30 p.m. Cost is $46.
Dealing with Difficult People: This one-day seminar teaches how to look at difficult people as an opportunity for self-improvement. Explore personality types and how to adjust one's style to better communicate with others. The class will focus on healthy confrontation, conflict resolution, expressing criticism without being critical and understanding one's "buttons" and what pushes them. Class will meet Aug. 15, 8 a.m. to noon. The cost is $14 plus $15 for a course workbook.
Making Stress Work For You: Explore the causes of stress and gain insight into overcoming it. Students will learn creative ways to handle pressure and develop an action plan for maintaining calm. Class meets Aug. 15, 1- 5 p.m. Cost is $14 plus $15 for a course workbook.
Goal Setting That Brings Results: Adopt new attitudes and see with new eyes in order to form new habits. Learn how to create realistic goals while balancing needs with family and work. Class meets Aug. 16, 9 a.m.- 1 p.m. Cost is $14 plus $15 for the work book.
Financial Focus for Women: This program covers issues specific to women including strengthening credit, improving cash flow, investing for growth and/or income, managing taxes and passing along more wealth to heirs. Class will meet Aug. 19, 6:30- 8:30 p.m. Cost is $14.
Volleyball Skills for Lifelong Learners: This class is for those 50 years and older to develop or improve individual volleyball skills. Four individual sessions will be conducted to include serving, passing, setting, attacking, blocking and defense. Class meets Aug. 15. The first two sessions will be from 9 to 11:30 a.m. The other sessions will be from 12:15-2:45 p.m. Cost is $21.
