PHOTO BY BILL McDONALD LHS cheerleaders took home top awards from National Cheerleader Association Camp held recently in Temple. The Lampasas High School cheerleaders recently attended the National Cheerleader Association Camp in Temple, bringing home numerous awards.

In the mascot category, Megan Blair, this season's "Bailey the Badger," won top honors with an All- American Mascot win. She also was chosen Top Mascot of the camp and was awarded a trophy.

Senior captain Amanda Miller earned the prestigious cheerleading award, Overall Best Leader. She was selected from among all the cheerleader captains in attendance, earning an individual plaque.

During the three-day camp, other awards were given to individuals and groups.

The freshman squad received two blue ribbons and one red ribbon on its chant evaluations, three blue ribbons on its cheer evaluations, and a Spirit Stick Award.

The JV squad was given a bid to attend the NCA National competitions in Dallas next year, and all eight of its team members were nominated for the All-American Award.

The varsity squad earned three blue ribbons for chant evaluations and three blue ribbons for cheer evaluations. They also took home the Safety Stunting Award and the Superior Stunting Skills in Safety Award on the last day of camp, and a spirit Stick Award.

During camp, each of the 12 girls was nominated for the All-American Award.

Finally, the varsity squad competed in the most difficult performance category, the Top Performance Team, earning a first-place team trophy.

Cheerleaders were accompanied to camp by Sherry Gillen, head coach, and assistant Tracy Straley.

Varsity cheerleaders are senior captains Kayla Argo, Cheyene Bayer, Amy Johnson and Amanda Miller. Other squad members are Kristen Brewer, Katie Brooks, Alyssa Castle, Madison Henniger, Raven Morley, Chelsea Ragland, Amanda Sueoka and Makayla Valles.

Junior varsity cheerleaders are Amber Castle, Brooklynn DeKort, Tiffany Fagg, Madison Langford, Darcy McNutt, Rachael Price, Joelle Ritz and Meagan Young.

Freshman cheerleaders include Paige Hensley, Breanna Jones, Madison Rogers, Jordan Shadrick, Ronnie Jo Varney and Megan Woodson.
