Rainwater harvesting education program to be held in Burnet
The Burnet County office of Texas AgriLife Extension Service and Central Texas Groundwater Conservation District will present an educational program on rainwater harvesting and water well health and safety.
The program, set Aug. 19 at 7 p.m., is open to the public at 401 E. Jackson in Burnet.
Billy Kniffen, water resource specialist with the Department of Biological & Agricultural Engineering office of Texas AgriLife Extension, will present the program.
Kniffen is an expert in design of water catchment systems and the treatment of rainwater for landscape, household use, wildlife and livestock use.
The program emphasis will be to help citizens find ways to catch and use rainwater to supplement their water needs to expand the water resource, whether a private water well or a community water system.
Topics of discussion will include design and construction of rainwater harvest systems, water tank placement, construction, material selection, pumps, distribution systems, water treatment and more.
A representative from the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation Water Well Drillers & Pump Installers will provide a program on new well construction and abandoned wells.
The program also will include the use of the Texas Water Development Board Water Information Integration & Dissemination system and how to file a complaint about an abandoned well online.
