Ag clinic set Aug. 19 at local FB

Texas AgriLife Extension Service in Lampasas, Burnet and Llano counties will host the CenTex Cow/ Calf Clinic Aug. 19 at the Lampasas County Farm Bureau Building on U.S. Highway 281 North.

Registration begins at 8 a.m., and the program starts at 8:30 a.m.

This year's theme is "Turbulent Times in the Beef Industry."

The program will include information on a reproductive efficiency, new value-added beef cuts and beef cattle economics with an update on this year's market.

The now-mandatory Country of Origin Labeling also will be discussed.

Confirmed speakers include Dr. Rick Machen, Extension livestock specialist; Dr. Davey Griffin, professor and meat science specialist, Texas A&M University; and Dr. William Thompson, Extension economist.

Program sponsors include Texas Land Bank and the Colorado River CattleWomen's Association.

A barbecue lunch will be provided. Cost is $10 per person.

Also, two continuing education units will be offered for those holding a pesticide applicator's license.
