LHS Class of 1958 has slate of events during July festival
Lampasas High School Class of 1958 observed its 50th anniversary with a full weekend of events during Spring Ho.
Thirty members and spouses met Spring Ho Friday at the Snell ranch for a hot dog and hamburger supper and visiting. Work on the Spring Ho Parade float also was completed at that time.
On Saturday morning, classmates met at the Holiday Inn Express for brunch and more visiting before boarding the parade float. About 20 members rode on the float, which earned a first-place ribbon in its division.
The upstairs room at the Hostess House was the site for a dinner and dance Saturday night -- the site where almost every class party in the 1950s was held.
Visiting for a couple of hours was followed by dinner with 42 of the original 72 classmates and 23 spouses and guests in attendance.
Marvel and Richard Love conducted a brief memorial service for the 13 classmates who died since graduation.
During a short business meeting, Marion Snell proposed the presentation of a flag pole for the new high school building, and the group agreed to it. Donations are being accepted through the end of August. Phone Snell or Kay Boone for more information.
Special guests Saturday night included former teachers Christine Wilson, Gail Callahan and W.B. Bush, who was principal at the high school in 1958. Mutsu Crumley, a former class sponsor, was unable to attend.
Entertainment was provided by Elvis (Johnny Memphis of Salado), who offered music popular during the 1950s and 1960s.
The three-day event culminated at First United Methodist Church on Sunday morning when 20 classmates attended church services together.
"We are delighted at the turnout and how well the committee planned the events," said a class spokesman. "We raised the bar for class reunions in Lampasas."
