It's a girl
      Neal and Jennifer Brown of Lampasas announce the birth of their daughter, Allie Landry, born July 24, 2008, at 2:12 a.m. in Temple. At arrival, Allie weighed 7 pounds and was 18 1/2 inches in length. She joins a brother, Linden, and a sister, Jenneal.

      Seton Highland Lakes Hospital will co-sponsor an AARP Senior Driving Class Aug. 18-19 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. each day at Woodlands Retirement Center, 700 Janet Dr., in Burnet. The eight-hour refresher course is for motorists ages 50 and older.

LHS Class of 1958 has slate of events during July festival
      Lampasas High School Class of 1958 observed its 50th anniversary with a full weekend of events during Spring Ho. Thirty members and spouses met Spring Ho Friday at the Snell ranch for a hot dog and hamburger supper and visiting. Work on the Spring Ho Parade float also was completed at that time.

Church homecoming events on tap
      Clear Creek Baptist Church will celebrate Homecoming Weekend Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. at the church, west of Copperas Cove off U.S. Highway 190 at 3350 FM 2657. The church, founded in 1872, is celebrating 136 years and its pastor, the Rev. Thomas M. Edwards, who has been at the church for more than 33 years.

      Judy Kennedy, a volunteer 4-H leader, has been leading fun activities for area children. In June, they worked on jewelry-making, decorating towels and making keepsake bags. July was geared toward different food groups.

Yeary earns association honor
      Lampasas High School graduate Mike Yeary has been honored as the Colorado Wool Growers Association Guest of Honor. Yeary is the state director for Wildlife Services in Colorado. He graduated from Texas A&M University and began his career in 1979 as a wildlife damage control specialist with the Texas Rodent and Predatory Animal Control Service.

Retired Marine seeks info on local man
      A former Marine and current Leon County resident is seeking information about a Lampasas man. Retired Lt. Col. Foster L. Thompson's plane was shot down in the Philippines in April 1945 during World War II, and while he was on the airstrip waiting for assistance, he was approached by three men.

      The annual sales tax holiday will run Aug. 15-17. During that weekend, most clothing and shoes priced less than $100 can be purchased tax free. The break applies to both children's and adults' apparel.

Agency on Aging seeks volunteer program coaches
      The Area Agency on Aging of Central Texas is seeking volunteers to help provide the program, A Matter of Balance, designed to help people manage concepts about falls and increase physical activity. The program for seniors is conducted in two eight-hour sessions and uses group discussion, problem solving strategies, videos and gentle physical exercise.
