Deer association plans trade show

The Texas Deer Association will hold its 10th annual Convention & Trade Show Aug. 21-23 at the Westin La Cantera Resort and Hotel in San Antonio.

The convention attracts thousands of deer enthusiasts from around the state. The event features exhibitors from the hunting and deer industries, hunting equipment and firearms, fund-raising auctions that include whitetail and exotic hunts, and the 2008 Superior Genetics Whitetail Deer Auction.

A golf tournament, casino night and educational seminars on deer management also will be available.

"The convention is the largest TDA event of the year, and our 10th annual event promises to be the biggest ever," TDA Executive Director Karl Kinsel said. "In addition to the auctions and other great activities, the convention serves as the premium gathering for the state's finest deer breeders and ranch owners in the industry.

"Thousands of industry professionals will be in attendance," Kinsel added, "and the opportunities for networking with the best the industry has to offer and for newcomers to learn about deer and wildlife are truly limitless."

Since its establishment in 1999, the Texas Deer Association has worked to increase high-quality hunting experiences for Texas hunters, advocate wise management practices, and promote research and technology to improve deer herds through genetics and controlled breeding.

In addition, the Texas Deer Association provides a public education campaign for its members and other deer enthusiasts. That effort includes publication of the bimonthly Tracks Magazine, which provides deer industry news and information about deer genetics, land management, ranching and game management issues.

"Once deer enthusiasts know that one of TDA's primary goals is to increase quality hunting opportunities, they are eager to support us, and we welcome their attendance at this year's convention," Kinsel said. "If you are a deer enthusiast, the annual TDA Convention & Trade Show is one event you won't want to miss."
