TFWC members attend workshop
The Texas Federated Women's Clubs Capitol District held its annual summer workshop on July 16 at the Salado Springs Celebration Center in Salado.
Six local 36 Club and Pierian Club members attended: Amy McDaniel, 36 Club president; Crystal Hammett, Capitol District first vice president; Dorothy Duncan, 36 Club corresponding secretary; Ruthie Martin, Pierian club president-elect; Jane Westerfield, Pierian club vice president; and June Davis, reporter for 36 Club and Pierians.
In attendance were 69 members from 20 clubs in Capitol District, with Ramona McPhail, district president, presiding.
The TFWC Training Traveling Team, headed by TFWC President Marjorie Williamson, presented advice and assistance in all areas of club work before departing for another such meeting.
Team members took turns speaking on different aspects of club activities such as special projects available for clubs, interesting programs, duties of each elected officer, how minutes of meetings should be taken, extending and retention of membership, and how reports are supposed to be done.
Following a catered salad lunch, Ms. McPhail led the meeting centered around district concerns.
Her special project, domestic violence, was discussed along with other concerns such as obesity in children. Suggested ways of solving some of the problems also were examined.
The importance of technology as clubs move into the 21st century and funding of scholarships was presented and discussed.
The Capitol District Fall Board Meeting is Oct. 15 in Georgetown at the newly renovated San Gabriel Park Community Center.
