Homecoming set Aug. 9 at Lake Victor
      Lake Victor's annual homecoming is Aug. 9 at the Lake Victor Community Center, halfway between Lampasas and Burnet, three miles east of U.S, Highway 281 on FM 2340. Barbecue, beans and all the trimmings will be served at noon.

CTC course offered to assist incoming college freshmen
      As registration for the fall 2008 semester at Central Texas College begins, first-year students are encouraged to enroll in a new course designed to help them succeed and achieve personal success in their college career. Learning Frameworks - College Success was established this semester to assist freshmen who are not quite sure what college holds for them.

LHS band has busy summer
      For high school students, summer is a time for vacations, relaxing at the lake and summer jobs. For members of the Lampasas Badger Band, summer is also time for preparing for the upcoming school year. New drum majors Emily Demmel, Aaron Mendoza and Chris Naley attended a weeklong camp at the University of Texas at Arlington.

Tarleton to present stipends
      The Greater Texas Foundation recently awarded Tarleton State University two $25,000 grants for the establishment of the Generation Proud and the Rising to the Challenge scholarship programs for the 2008-09 school year. Generation Proud will provide $1,000 scholarships to 25 firstgeneration college students with financial need.

Local teens attend FB event
      Attending the Texas Farm Bureau's 45th annual Youth Leadership Conference at Angelo State University in San Angelo recently were Jeyde Kelly, Heath Hopson and Stacey Dickens. The Lampasas High School students were sponsored by Lampasas County Farm Bureau. They joined more than 300 high school juniors and seniors from over 150 counties across the state.

Lions to give away prize
      Drawing of a winning name for a Polaris Ranger donated by Jim Hoffpauir Inc. will be Aug. 15 at the auto dealership in Lampasas. The vehicle, most often used on farms and ranches to check on cattle, sheep and goats, uses little gasoline.

Gem, mineral society to meet
      Highland Lakes Gem & Mineral Society will meet Aug. 9 at 10 a.m. at the Church of Christ in Marble Falls, Broadway and U.S. Highway 281 South. Enter through the back door in the lower hall. The program will be a trip to the Upscale Retail Shop. Visitors are welcome.

AARP sets driving course for seniors
      Seton Highland Lakes Hospital will co-sponsor an AARP Senior Driving Class Aug. 18-19 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. each day at Woodlands Retirement Center, 700 Janet Dr., in Burnet. The eight-hour refresher course is for motorists ages 50 and older.

AMVETS sets blood drive for Aug. 4
      American Red Cross will hold a community blood drive Aug. 4 from 12:30-6:30 p.m. at AMVETS Post 80. Donors must be at least 17 years old, be in general good health and weigh a minimum of 110 pounds. For more information, please contact Wanda Meyers, local blood drive coordinator, at 556-3338.
