Headlining a recent called meeting of the Lometa Independent School District Board of Trustees were revisions to the school's dress codes for both students and teachers.

In discussing the adoption of a revised dress code for the upcoming school year, Lometa Superintendent David Rice said, "We are looking to create a more professional atmosphere this year."

For students the updated dress code includes a more specific guideline for hairstyles.

For boys, hair will not be longer than collar length and the bottom of the ear.

For girls and boys, hairstyles must be out of the student's eyes.

Students will be allowed to wear flip-flops to school with the exception of during physical education and agriscience courses.

No facial hair will be allowed except in the case of a specific event in which a school sponsor must submit a written request to the board and receive approval.

For teachers, pants length must extend past the knee with no shorts or cropped pants allowed.

Blue jeans are to be worn only on Fridays, however colored denim slacks and starched jeans will be allowed Monday through Thursday.

No flip flops will be allowed. Sandals must be professional in appearance with either a wedge or a heel.

No tank tops will be worn, and neither males nor females will be allowed to wear hats inside the buildings.

In other business, the board approved a note of $125,500 for new lighting for the football field area. The board had previously explored the possibility of a lease-purchase agreement for the improvements. "We looked at a lease-purchase plan, but after speaking with our school attorney, it didn't fulfill all of the stipulations set forth by the state of Texas," said Rice.

The board also approved an increase to the school's lunch room rates.

Breakfast rates are set at $1 for children and $1.75 for adults. Lunch rates will increase to $2.25 for prekindergarten through sixth grade, and grades seven through 12 will increase to $2.50.

Teacher lunch rates are set at $3.
