Former Lampasan named Fellow
James S. Bogard James S. Bogard, a 1966 Lampasas High School graduate, was named a Fellow of the Health Physics Society at the 53rd annual meeting of the HPS in Pittsburgh, Pa., July 15.
Fellow status honors senior members of the society who have made significant administrative, educational and/or scientific contributions to the profession of health physics.
Bogard served the Health Physics Society on committees and as president and secretary of the East Tennessee Chapter.
He also is past president of the American Academy of Health Physics, the organization responsible for certifying professional health physicists.
Bogard has chaired two HPS Standards Committee/American National Standards Institute writing groups and has been a member of a National Council on Radiation Protection and Measurement task group and a contributor to the Health Physics Society's Ask the Experts' Web feature.
He is the co-author of a health physics textbook and has published numerous articles and reports.
Bogard is a senior research staff member at Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Oak Ridge, Tenn. His professional interests include radiation dosimetry research at the ORNL Dosimetry Applications Research Calibration Laboratory and support of international nuclear safeguards research and training activities at ORNL' Safeguards Laboratory.
Bogard is the son of Juverna Bogard of Lampasas.
The Health Physics Society, a scientific and professional organization whose members specialize in occupational and environmental radiation safety, has named 274 Fellows since its founding in 1956. It has more than 5,300 members.
