Lampasans take part in Tiger Cruise aboard Navy vessel
      The USS Harry S. Truman returned recently to Naval Station Norfolk after a seven-month deployment. Carrier Air Wing Three aircraft flew more than 26,500 hours during 9,500 sorties. Of these, 2,459 were combat sorties directly supporting coalition forces operating on the ground in Iraq.

Benefit concert slated in Copperas Cove
      A family benefit for Billy Ray Williams will be held Aug. 10 at the Copperas Cove Civic Center, 1206 W. Ave. B, from noon to 7 p.m. Admission is $10 per person. Entertainment will include music by the Jarrett Schaub Band and Paula Nelson Band. A silent auction will be held.

      The financial services firm Edward Jones recently was named the No. 1 company in the "75 Best Companies to Work for in Texas" ranking by Texas Monthly magazine, according to Ken McDaniel, a financial advisor in Lampasas. Texas Monthly teamed up to rank the state's best employers with the Best Companies Group of Harrisburg, Pa.

      Drawing of a winning name for a Polaris Ranger donated by Jim Hoffpauir Inc. will be Aug. 15 at the auto dealership in Lampasas. The vehicle, most often used on farms and ranches to check on cattle, sheep and goats, uses little gasoline.

Agency seeks program volunteers
      The Area Agency on Aging of Central Texas is seeking volunteers to help provide the program, A Matter of Balance, designed to help people manage concepts about falls and increase physical activity. The program for seniors is conducted in two eight-hour sessions and uses group discussion, problem solving strategies, videos and gentle physical exercise.

City's museum extends hours
      Keystone Square Museum Board members agreed to extend the hours of the museum's operation. In addition to the museum's regular Saturday hours, the facility now will be open to the public most Mondays, from 10 a.m. to noon. Most recently, the museum was open Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 pm., and visits by appointment are still available.
