Lometa resident, former Evant superintendent, coach dies at 72
Jackie Williams Former longtime school administrator and coach Jackie Glen Williams of Lometa died July 16, 2008, at his residence. He was 72.
Funeral services were July 20 at Church of the Hills in Lometa with Pastor Kevin Martin and Bishop Kenneth Phillips officiating. Burial was at Senterfitt Cemetery in Lometa.
Mr. Williams was born Oct. 24, 1935, in Lometa, the son of Vernon and Rosa Lee Smith Williams.
He attended school in Lometa and graduated from Howard Payne University in Brownwood, where he played football and was team captain.
Mr. Williams married Margaret Nell Cooper on July 19, 1957, in Brownwood, and they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary last year.
After receiving a master's degree from HPU, Mr. Williams began coaching in public schools around Central Texas. His first assignment was in Goldthwaite, where he was a track coach and led his athletes to a state championship in 1966.
Lampasas was his next stop, before he coached in Copperas Cove for five years.
Mr. Williams then moved to Evant, where he served as superintendent for 21 years.
He then obtained his real estate license and had been selling real estate since 1980, maintaining offices in Goldthwaite and Lometa.
Mr. Williams was an elder at Church of the Hills in Lometa for many years. He held membership in the Lions Club, Masonic Lodge, Texas Board of Realtors and was a life member of the Community School Association.
During his career, he was selected Superintendent of the Year for Region 12.
Survivors include his wife of Lometa; two daughters and their husbands, Cindy and Dennis Sheldon, of Evant, and Brenda and Ray Faubion, of Lometa; one son and his wife, Mike and Darla Williams, of Goldthwaite; two brothers and their wives, Leonard and Lu Ann Williams, of Lometa, and Gene and Lisa Williams, of Comanche; sisters-in-law, Mollie Williams, of Lometa, and Zimmalew Boeker, of Forsan; and grandchildren, Leah Sheldon Yocham and husband, Yale, Lanna Sheldon, Michael Williams, Jonathon Williams, Charles Jack (CJ) Faubion and Brandon Faubion.
Mr. Williams was preceded in death by a brother, Darrell.
