First-time steer exhibitor Tristan Holloman waits to validate his show calf at the recent validation clinic. He and his sister, Trilby, will exhibit four steers this show season. Forty-seven steers were validated recently by the Lampasas Steer Validation Committee for upcoming Lampasas, Lometa and major shows set for 2009.

Several new exhibitors will begin their showing experience through 4-H and FFA this year.

Lampasas Steer Validation Committee members include county ag science teachers Brad Barnett, Dr. Steve Forsythe and Wes Harris, and Jason Byrd, AgriLife Extension agent.

Forsythe is the steer validation chair for the county.

Trilby Holloman will show her steers in livestock events during the 2009 season. Shawna Holloman, a Lampasas High School senior FFA member, validated four steers she and her brother, Ashton, will show this season. Steer exhibitor Hadley Berry also is a first-time stock show competitor. Lucas Atkinson, FFA freshman, prepares to secure his steer for validation at the recent clinic.
