SOCCER

The Lampasas Soccer Association is now taking applications for both boys' (Force) and girls' (Tri- City Express) teams.

Players from ages 9 to 18 as of Aug. 1 are eligible. Registration forms and additional information are available on the association's Web site at lampasassoccer.org or by calling Clay Harrington at 556-3581 or Jerry Barbero at 556-4106.

HORSESHOES

The Lampasas Spring Ho Horseshoe Tournament is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. on Saturday at Hancock Park.

Single players will be matched with partners. The cost is $15 per team. Trophies and cash will be awarded to the winners. There will be a playground 20 yards from the pits, and Hancock pool is 100 yards away.

BADGER FOOTBALL

Lampasas High School football season tickets will be on sale at the LHS athletics office Aug. 4-8 for current ticket holders and Aug. 11-15 for non-ticket holders. Sales will be cut off Aug. 15.

The LHS and Lampasas Middle School weight rooms will be open to student-athletes throughout the summer.

The LHS weight room is open from 6 a.m. to 7:45 a.m. for varsity and junior varsity players and from 8 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. for female athletes and incoming freshmen.

The LMS weight room is open Monday and Wednesday from 10 a.m. to noon and Tuesday and Thursday from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

HORSE HEALTH

The American Association of Equine Practitioners' Healthy Horses Workshop is scheduled for July 26 in Austin.

The event is designed for non-veterinarians who are interested in equine health.

Now in its ninth year, the event will address horsehealth topics important to horse owners and will feature a seminar by world-renowned trainer Monty Roberts.

The event is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Hilton Austin Hotel. Registration starts at 8:30 a.m. The cost is $85.

RANCH RODEO

The Mills County Cowboy Church has scheduled its second annual MCCC Ranch Rodeo for July 19 at 7 p.m. at the arena one mile south of Goldthwaite on U.S. Highway 183.

The first 12 four-man teams to sign up will be accepted. The cost is $400 per team with an 80 percent payback. Events include branding, sorting, trailer loading, doctoring and wild cow milking. To enter, call Kent at 325-451-4016 or Debbie at 325- 648-2000.

HPU BASKETBALL CAMP

The Howard Payne University Women's Basketball Fundamentals Camp is scheduled for July 28-31 at the Elliston-Cassle Wellness Center on the HPU campus.

The camp is split into two sessions, one for second through eighth-graders and one for ninththrough 12th-graders. The cost of the camp is $70 and includes a T-shirt.

TSU BASEBALL TRYOUTS

Tarleton State University will host open walk-on baseball tryouts at 9 a.m. July 19 at the Cecil Ballow Baseball Complex in Stephenville.

The tryouts are open to all 2008 graduating seniors and current college students. All participants must bring a copy of their record of physical examination, and all current players at other four-year colleges must bring a letter of release. TDA TRADE SHOW

The 10th-annual Texas Deer Association Convention and Trade Show is scheduled for Aug. 21-23 at the Westin La Cantera Hotel in San Antonio.

The event will feature exhibitors from the hunting industry, fundraising auctions for whitetail and exotic hunts, hunting equipment and firearms.
