CTC lists upcoming non-credit courses
The Central Texas College (CTC) Continuing Education Department is offering a variety of noncredit courses this summer. Classes in self-improvement, business, exercise/fitness, arts and crafts and healthcare are available. Registration is under way for the following classes.
Investment Basics: Beyond Budgeting: Learn how to be a smart money manager. This easy-to-understand class includes investment topics such as cash management, tracking cash flow, basic investment terminology and concepts, stocks, bonds and mutual funds. Class meets Tuesday, 6:30- 8:30 p.m. Cost is $14.
Basic Bookkeeping: Gain a basic understanding of reports such as balance statements and profit/loss statements. Course also covers reconciliations, assets, liabilities, cost of goods, expenses, journal entries and payroll issues. Class meets July 19 and July 26, 9 a.m.- 1 p.m. Cost is $41.
Excel 2003: Plan, design and build worksheets on the computer. Class will explore worksheet cell functions such as labels, values and formulas, spreadsheet linkage and named cells using colors and fonts for cell contents. Class meets Mondays and Wednesdays, July 21 to Aug. 13, 6- 8 p.m. Cost is $74.
Grammar and Writing Review: Discover the basic elements of grammar and writing as the class covers nouns, verbs, pronouns, modifiers, prepositions, punctuation, spelling, sentence structure and more. Class meets Mondays, July 21 to Aug. 25, 6:30- 8:30 p.m. Cost is $36 plus $13 for the class book, "English Grammar."
CPR for Healthcare Providers: This American Heart Association basic life support class is designed for healthcare providers including physicians, nurses, EMTs and allied health personnel. The course also includes AED training and participants can be issued a CPR certification card. Class meets July 21, 9 a.m.- 5 p.m. Cost is $43.
Water Aerobics for Lifelong Learners (ages 50 and up): This fun workout includes easy-to-follow exercise routines to improve cardiovascular fitness. It will also improve strength, flexibility, balance and muscular endurance. Class meets Tuesdays and Thursdays, July 15 to Aug. 21, 9- 10 a.m. Cost is $36.
Cumbia: Learn the basic steps of this dance favorite. Class meets Tuesdays and Thursdays, July 15- 24, 7- 9 p.m. Cost is $31.
Matting and Framing: This demonstration class teaches how to cut glass, cut matte boards and assemble frames and matted art work. It also includes approaches to two- and three-dimensional art pieces. Class meets July 19 and July 26, 10 a.m.- noon. Cost is $16.
Astrology for Beginners: Learn about this fun and enlightening source of self-enrichment. Topics include astrological history, planets, astrological signs, houses, aspects and charts. Class meets Tuesdays and Thursdays, July 15- 24, 6:30- 8:30 p.m. Cost is $46.
String Instrument Maintenance, Cleanup and Setup: This new class teaches proper cleaning, adjusting and maintenance of stringed instruments. Instruction includes string selection, troubleshooting, setting of harmonics and neck adjustment. Class will meet Tuesdays, July 22 to Aug. 26, 7:15- 8:15 p.m. Cost is $89.
