Relocation

The history of Payne West Barber Shop, famous in Adamsville from 1923-81, spans more than one county as people from surrounding counties came to Adamsville to have West cut their hair, run his own "bank," and tell stories. The shop was located on lot 3, block 4 of the Township of Adamsville. Recently, it was acquired by Richard Wolfe and is in the process of being relocated next to the house that West and his wife resided in until their deaths. The building plays an important part in Adamsville's history. Never painted, the former West residence has two rooms and a bathroom added on about 25 years ago. West is the great-grandson of Joseph Leland Straley and wife, Sallie, early Adamsville pioneers.
