Commanding general to address Conservative Club members
Gen. Charles C. "Hondo" Campbell, commanding general of the United States Army Forces Command, will address the Lampasas County Conservative Club Thursday at 7 p.m. in the district courtroom at the county courthouse.
He will discuss the ongoing war on terrorism.
Campbell assumed command of the Army Forces Command at Fort McPherson, Ga., on Jan. 9, 2007. The 17th officer to lead the Army Forces Command, Campbell is responsible for the oversight, training and equipping of 750,000 active duty, reserve and National Guard soldiers when mobilized for combat operations.
He earned his commission through Louisiana State University's ROTC program in 1970. He has extensive experience in Combined Arms and in Joint command and staff.
Campbell commanded a Special Operations A-Detachment in Vietnam, an armor battalion in the 3rd Armored Division and a mechanized brigade in the 2nd Infantry Division. He also served as commanding general of the 7th Infantry Division.
Before moving to Fort McPherson for duty as the deputy commander at U.S. Army Forces Command, Campbell was the commanding general for Eighth Army, Republic of Korea.
The commanding general's Army and Joint-level staff experience includes service as a plans and operations officer for the Combined Field Army in United States Forces Korea; the chief of staff for United States Central Command; and chief of staff for United Nations Command/Combined Forces Command/ United States Forces Korea.
Campbell holds a bachelor of arts degree in history from LSU, and a master of military art and science from the United States Army Command and General Staff College.
He also has attended a variety of military schools, culminating with his graduation from the Army War College in 1991.
His military awards and decorations include the Distinguished Service Medal, the Defense Superior Service Medal, the Legion of Merit with three oak leaf clusters, the Bronze Star Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal with five oak leaf clusters, the Army Commendation Medal with an oak leaf cluster, the Army Achievement Medal, the Special Forces Tab and the Parachutist Badge.
