Badgers win consolation at Cameron
With three straight wins to close out the Cameron Yoe Christmas Classic, the Lampasas boys' basketball team not only captured the tournament's consolation crown, but also it matched its highest season-win total since 2003-04 with its 12th victory.
The Badgers (12-7) opened the tournament with a 76-62 loss to Hearne, but they caught fire to beat Bellville, 69-58, Cameron, 68-48, and Waller, 64-59.
Senior guard Clay Tyner and junior post Heath Hopson were named to the all-tournament team. Tyner averaged 6.3 assists per game and posted 19 points in the win against Bellville. Hopson averaged 26.3 points and 9.8 rebounds per contest, including point totals of 33 against Cameron and 32 against Hearne.
Heath Cofield scored 20 points against Waller, 13 against Bellville and 10 against Cameron. Jacob Maceyra scored eight points against Hearne, and Jonathan VanLiew posted a season high 16 against Bellville.
LHS Girls at Copperas Cove Tournament: In three games at the Bush's Chicken Holiday Classic, the Lady Badgers got in almost four games worth of work.
After falling to Whiteside, 46- 36, in the opening round, LHS (7-14) pushed Class 5A San Angelo Central to overtime before losing, 57-55. They then fell to Westwood, 62-57, in double overtime.
