CAVS ROCK BADGERS
LHS boys fall behind early, open 25-4A play with road loss

Lake Travis was hot.

Heath Cofield, shown here against Waco Midway last Tuesday, scored 13 points against Lake Travis.
Lampasas was not.

The Cavaliers connected on 15 of 21 shots from the field to open District 25-4A play with a 60-42 win against the Badgers at Lake Travis on Friday.

The Badgers (9-5 overall, 0-1 in district) fell into a 7-0 hole, missing their first three shots of the game, a theme that would haunt the team the rest of the game.

"With a season-low 15 turnovers, we did things right offensively, but we failed to connect on shot after shot," LHS head coach Scott Harrelson said.

Lake Travis (13-2, 1-0) led 30- 19 at the half and 43-26 after three quarters. Not only did the Cavaliers shoot the ball effectively, but also they protected it.

"Lake Travis showed it's a team to be reckoned with in this district because their teamwork, excellent ball-handling and decision making proved too much for us on Friday," Harrelson said. "I truly believe the next game against Lake Travis (Jan. 22, 2008 at Lampasas) will be different."

Senior post Heath Cofield recorded a double-double, scoring 13 points and grabbing 11 rebounds, but his counterpart in the paint, junior Heath Hopson, was held to eight points and eight rebounds in the face of a physical Lake Travis double-team.

Cofield also produced defensively, recording four blocked shots and three steals.

Senior guard Clay Tyner scored four of his 10 total points in the first quarter and registered a teamhigh five assists.

"Clay had a really good game as did Heath Cofield," the coach said. "Hopson contributed but could never get loose from the very aggressive bumping, double-teaming defense that kept him off-balanced."

The Badgers are off tonight and scheduled to return to the floor Friday night at Pflugerville Connally.

"I'm very proud of how the team fought and kept doing what we asked of them," Harrelson said. "I'm looking forward to the Connally game to finish off the first semester of play."
