Mr. Hewitt George W. Hewitt, 81, died Dec. 9, 2007, at his Copperas Cove residence. The body will be cremated and the ashes will be buried at Fort Worth at a later date. He was born Dec. 14, 1925, in Fort Worth, the son of Peter Reagan Hewitt and Rose Adkins Hewitt. After the attack on Pearl Harbor, Mr. Hewitt graduated from R.L. Paschal High School. Too young to join the Navy, he left for California to work in the shipyards. Mr. Hewitt later joined the Marines and saw action with the First Marine Division on Okinawa and throughout the Pacific Theater. After the war, he enrolled at Texas Tech University where he received a degree in electrical engineering. Mr. Hewitt married Polly McBeth in 1954. He was employed at Convair/General Dynamics, now known as Lockheed Martin, for 35 years. As a child, Mr. Hewitt maintained perfect Sunday School attendance for many years at First Christian Church of Fort Worth, where he remained a member for the rest of his life. He joined the Masonic Lodge in Fort Worth, and when he moved to Central Texas in 1990, Mr. Hewitt joined Saratoga Masonic Lodge in Lampasas. In October 2007, he received his 60-year membership pin. Survivors include his wife of Copperas Cove; a sister, Cae Hewitt Carter, of Killeen; two daughters, Jani Hewitt Edwards, and husband, Mickey, of Lampasas, and Kay Hewitt, of Copperas Cove; four grandchildren and their families, Caety Edward West and husband, Stuart, Becci Scarborough Hooten and husband, Nathan, Reagan Edwards and wife, Brandy, and Greg Scarborough; and five greatgrandchildren, Jay Edwards, Brennan Edwards, Sydney Eicher, Nicholas Hooten and Addison Hooten.
