Local youths capture awards at swine show

Lampasas FFA hosted the annual San Saba District FFA Swine Show recently with 117 hogs entered.

Many Lampasas 4-H and FFA members were successful in the show, which featured champion buckles and prize money.

Slayton Strube of Texas A&M University judged the day-long event.

Michael Fisher took the runnerup senior swine showmanship award.

Emily Parson, a Lampasas junior FFA member, won grand champion black OPB breed.

Reserve championship went to Makayla Martin with her Yorkshire breed.

First-place awards went to Jared Nuckles with his lightweight Hampshire; Kleg Kennedy, mediumweight black OPB breed; Taylor Loeffler, lightweight-cross breed; Breighton Loeffler, heavyweight black OPB.

Yorkshire breed: 2. Kirby Kennedy and Mackenzie Martin.

Lightweight crossbred hog: 1. Taylor Loeffler. 3. Kirby Kennedy. 4. Brodi Myers. 5. Colton Joanis.
