Marble Falls drops LHS in 25-4A opener

The Lampasas girls' basketball team opened District 25-4A play with a 53-35 road loss at the hands of Marble Falls on Tuesday night.

The Lady Badgers (2-9 overall, 0-1 in district) were tied at 9 after one quarter, but the Lady Mustangs outscored them 16-3 in the second quarter and 28-23 in the second half.

"The girls played extremely hard -- harder than they've played all year," LHS head coach Mitzi Lancaster said. "I was extremely proud of their effort. The second quarter was a tough one for us offensively and defensively."

Senior guard Michelle Benton led the Lady Badgers with 12 points, hitting on four 3-pointers.

"Michelle Benton was a spark of heart and effort," Lancaster said.

Sophomore post Sarah Bishop scored six points, grabbed six rebounds and registered two assists.

Sophomore post Lauren Barlow scored six points, and senior guard Jennifer Howard had four rebounds and two assists.

The Lady Badgers will try to regroup at the Llano Tournament this weekend before returning home to play host to Burnet in a district game on Tuesday.
