Sculpture repaired at park
Photos by Bill McDonald

Sculptor David B. Hickman, at right works with an assistant to repair parts of "Meadow Dancers" which was damaged in a recent storm. The moving sculpture is at Hanna Springs Sculpture Park.
In the summer of 2006, "Meadow Dancers" was installed in the Hanna Springs Sculpture Garden in Lampasas.

The sculpture consists of three large, colorful butterflies placed in a triangular arrangement.

Each bright yellow, blue and red butterfly stands 15 feet tall and weighs about 200 pounds, yet moves gracefully in the wind as if flying over the Hanna Springs Sculpture Garden.

The artist, David B. Hickman, is a renowned sculptor who has been recognized by "Faith and Forum Magazine," "Texas Architectural Magazine," the Society for Environmental Graphic Designers and the Urban Dream Study of Dallas.

Hickman was selected by the Texas Legislature as the state's Three Dimensional Artist for 2004.

In 2005, the Dallas chapter of the American Institute of Architects recognized the sculptor as Artist of the Year.

Lampasas Association For The Arts purchased the art work as one of its first permanent additions to the growing sculpture garden.

However, winds of over 70 miles per hour this past year damaged the butterfly sculptures.

Hickman made a recent stop in Lampasas to "mend the wings" of the damaged butterflies to allow them to "fly" once again."

LAFTA also is in the process of procuring more works of art for the sculpture garden.
