Mrs. Campbell

Doris Marie Miller Campbell, 96, died Nov. 28, 2007, at Spring Oaks Nursing & Rehab in Lampasas.

Funeral services were Dec. 2 at St. Mary's Episcopal Church. Interment of ashes was at St. Mary's Episcopal Memorial Garden.

The daughter of Arthur B. and Nettie Marie Hughes Miller, Mrs. Campbell was born Feb. 1, 1911, in Kempner, the youngest of seven children.

She attended Mt. Pleasant School near Kempner and graduated from Lampasas High School. She attended South Park College, now Lamar University in Beaumont, and was a member of Delta Psi Omega, an honorary organization dedicated to theater and performing arts.

While at college, she also played piano in the orchestra, sang in the choir and was an actress and member of the Curtain Club. She also belonged to the literary group, Palas Athena.

She married Jack Lindley Campbell on Sept. 10, 1931, in Lampasas.

Following her graduation from College, Mrs. Campbell returned to the Lampasas area and taught piano.

Mrs. Campbell was a member and past-president of the United Daughters of the Confederacy and an active member of the Thursday Luncheon Club and Brown Bags and Books Club. She was an active member of St. Mary's Episcopal Church since 1957.

She was an avid golfer, Mrs. Campbell was city champion for two years. She enjoyed fly fishing, camping, hunting, flower arranging and making Christmas tree decorations.

Survivors include nieces, Colleen Ivey Hartsoe, and husband, Charles, of North Carolina, Dixie Miller Majors, and husband, Ray, of Atlanta, Judith Miller Owsley, and husband, Bud, of Colorado Springs, Nancy Miller Folmar, and husband, Bill, of Colleyville; a nephew, Robert Floyd Miller, of Las Vegas; and a number of great-nieces and greatnephews.

Mrs. Campbell was preceded in death by her husband; all of her siblings; and her son and his wife, Ida.

The family requested memorials be made to St. Mary's Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 29, Lampasas, TX 76550.
